Paris Canal

The Seine and the Canal Saint Martin between the Musée d’Orsay and the Parc de la Villette

Seine    half a day    Groups    Canal Saint Martin

An original and unexpected view of Paris ! Our cruise brings you the best of both worlds : the grandeur of the Seine together with the quiet intimacy of Napoleon’s canals. Embarcation just below the Musée d’Orsay. Then a veritable parade of monuments : the Louvre, the Institute of France, the spires of Notre-Dame, the Ile Saint Louis before arriving at the entrance of the canal Saint Martin whose first section is an astonishing, eerily-lit tunnel which passes under the place de la Bastille.

Once more in the light of day, you will discover the most romantic street in Paris... 3 miles of pure poetry. In its jade coloured water are reflected old swing bridges, halfmoon footbridges and the abundant foliage of horse-chestnut trees.

The canal Saint Martin reveals a side of the city that the tourist usually doesn’t get to see. The canal climbs its way through a series of 19th century locks and some enchanting old areas of Paris, steeped in popular history until, 26 metres above the Seine, it comes up to the Villette Basin. Here you will pass the raised bridge of Crimée before arriving at the Park of la Villette where the Science Museum, the Geode and enchanting thematic gardens await you.

Our cruises run every day from March 21st to November 11th 2009 and feature a live English commentary.
